The Career Service Center is accepting application for an Assistant Director - Career Exploration and Development to provide career counseling, assessment, coaching, and guidance to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni on a wide range of career-related issues including career/major decision making, experiential education, job choice, personal branding & self-marketing skills and career success through a variety of delivery systems including individual appointments, group sessions, workshops, support efforts of career development course, and web-based tools and information. Lead the Tiger L.E.A.P. (learn, experience, apply and practice) job shadowing program and Tiger Mentor Network alumni mentor initiative. As a member of the Career Center team participate in activities including career fairs and events, liaison work with relevant units, committees and program planning that support the goals and mission of a comprehensive Career Center.
Meet with students and alumni individually to assess career-related needs. Provide advising and guidance related to decision-making, self-marketing, job/internship location and graduate school preparation. Identify, leverage and ensure accessibility of appropriate resources. Develop and deliver programming, which could include workshops, conferences, seminars, presentations, fairs, panels, networking events, etc. Coordinate with relevant Career Center and other TU staff regarding marketing, logistics and assessment. Facilitate and deliver workshops/presentations based on identified needs and interests of students and academic departments. Prepare and customize content as needed.
Cultivate network of students and alumni through Tiger Mentor Network. Recruit participants, educate users on best practices and manage database. Evaluate program and make adjustments accordingly. Manage the Tiger L.E.A.P. job shadowing program. Work with Alumni Relations and career community colleagues to secure shadowing sites and market the opportunity to students. Manage logistics of registration, matching, preparation of students and sites, confirmation and evaluations.
Serve as the Career Center’s Liaison to Alumni Relations and Academic Advising. Represent the Career Center on divisional and university committees. Contribute to office data collection and assessment by accurately recording engagement, programs, services and all other relevant touchpoints with internal and external contacts.
Proactively stay current on related professional topics, best practices, and trends to include TU and Career Center offerings, professional associations, independent reading, conference and other professional development programming. Participate on university committees as needed. Actively participate in staff and team meetings. Provide support as needed to Center's programs and initiatives; other duties as assigned that aid in the obtainment of the Career Center's mission.
Required:
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or other related field.
- Two years of of counseling, career coaching or related experience.
- Passion for student success and career counseling/coaching in a higher education environment.
- Experience building rapport and counseling clients.
- Experience in self-branding techniques and job/internship search strategies.
- Experience with event/program management.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to an evolving team.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of issues related to employment barriers, issues of workplace accommodations, and the needs of a diverse student population; experience with the application of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
- Demonstrated comfort with technology.
Preferred:
- Myers–Briggs Type Indicator and/or Strong Interest Inventory Practitioner Certification.
- Familiarity with CliftonStrengths.
- Counseling or coaching license/certification.
- Experience counseling/advising college students.
