We are seeking a CO Nurse Midwife who is a health care provider working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, responsible for providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to both ambulatory patients and inpatients. The CNM educates and intervenes in the antepartum, intra partum, and postpartum continuum. Practices within the guidelines of the department, and the institution in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner-Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland. The CNM is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins Hospital; these privileges are renewed annually. The CNM responsible to the collaborating physician and department head for nursing standards and practice.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide urgent and non-urgent care to antepartum and postpartum patients.
- Order appropriate labs, ultrasounds and consults as needed.
- Provide emergency/urgent care to obstetrical patients throughout pregnancy and postpartum.
- Assess, evaluate, and implement treatment.
- Postpartum-Evaluation, intervention, and care of postpartum patients.
- Provide appropriate teaching, education, and information with postpartum care.
- Assists with lactation and family planning.
- Initiation of contraception for postpartum patients (IUD-insertion and removals, OCP, Depo-Provera, etc.).
- Evaluation and management of gyn problems: DUB, EMB, vulva biopsy, well-women care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse license.
- Certified as a Nurse Midwife.
- Must be licensed as a Nurse Midwife in the State of Maryland.
- Current BLS/CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
- Completion of the JHBMC credentialing process is required prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
