Join us in our Center for Substance Use and Infectious Disease Care Integration! We seek a motivated, collaborative Peer Recovery Specialist and Fidelity Supervisor to provide Team Support and ensure Fidelity and Quality for Peer Recovery Specialist intervention aspects of peer-facilitated implementation science projects in the Center for Substance Use and Infectious Disease Care Integration at Johns Hopkins. The Fidelity Supervisor will also perform in the role of a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist her/himself and maintain their own caseload for current projects.


We are a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team committed to creating and implementing interventions to make access to recovery support services and treatment for substance use disorders  (SUDs), Mental Health Disorders (MHDs), and HIV and hepatitis more accessible and culturally congruent. We value harm reduction approaches and utilize evidence-based medications and behavioral interventions and seek people with demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of people who use drugs to join our team.


Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Peer Recovery Specialist and Fidelity Supervisor will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of peer facilitated strategies to improve health outcomes for people who use drugs.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Peer Recovery Support Services

  • Participate in initial fundamental and on-going training in Evidence-Based skills and interventions, treatment and medication options for patients living with HIV, hepatitis, mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Provide patient-centered care and recovery support services as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, in the model of Collaborative Care Management (training provided).
  • Prepare for and participate in weekly scheduled meetings.
  • Maintain professionalism in interactions with clients/patients, medical providers and staff, community-based organizations and resources.
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to working as a part of a patient/person-centered Treatment Team based on a structured, protocol-driven, team approach to collaborative care.
  • Support patients to safely and effectively start taking buprenorphine or other medication for substance use treatment.
  • Work with patients according to specific project protocols and patient-developed goals.
  • Manage a caseload of patients using project-specific registries so that no one falls through the cracks.
  • Use protocols goals to support a care plan agreed upon by the Treatment Team.
  • Use the Electronic Medical Record to look up important information about each patients care - training and support provided.
  • Complete documentation of interaction with program clients / patients correctly and within 1 business day of interaction.
  • Use a provided work phone in order to be available to assigned patients in caseload during Monday-Friday working hours.
  • Reporting and data entry needed via computer.
  • Some travel to clients and community partners may be required.
  • Maintain healthy boundaries and self-care.
  • Consistent adherence to COVID-19 and other infectious disease safety requirements.


Fidelity Supervisor, Support, & Quality Assurance for Peer Recovery Specialist Team

  • Work closely with and regularly report to the Program Director.
  • Onsite day to day operations Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) Team Lead, with primary responsibility for ensuring daily Monitoring of and Fidelity to Peer Recovery Specialist aspects of Program Implementation.
  • Support PRS team with implementation and fidelity to those protocols.
  • Support PRS team in timely and accurate documentation in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provide technical assistance to Peer Coaches, e.g. with Epic, Outlook, MS Excel, Redcap, etc.
  • Contribute meaningfully to a collaborative, supportive work environment.
  • Maintain current knowledge of available SUD treatment options in the community and contribute to broadening outreach and engagement.




Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Two years related experience, with some supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • MABPCB Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
  • MABPCB Registered Peer Supervisor.
  • Flexibility with evolving research and/or clinical protocols.
  • Ability to shift between in-person and remote work as needed.
  • Experience with responsibility for Quality Assurance.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of HIV prevention, HIV treatment, Substance Use Disorders, Mental Health Disorders.
  • Commitment to striving for culturally congruent care for medically vulnerable populations including but not limited to: Black and Indigenous persons, LGBTQ+ persons, people experiencing current and or generational poverty and/or trauma.
  • Ability to positively contribute to a diverse workplace.
  • Ability to navigate healthcare settings respectfully and in the best interests of the patients we serve.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Facility with Microsoft software (e.g. Excel, Outlook, Teams), general computer and communications skills including telecommunications (e.g. Zoom meetings and emails).
  • Knowledge of or capacity to quickly gain facility with EPIC, the JH EMR; Redcap and other software programs as needed.
  • Capacity to demonstrate patience, especially in the case of lack of or slow patient progress. Ability to hold patients, coworkers, and all staff and medical providers in positive regard.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
