The Department of Otolaryngology (Division of Pediatrics) is seeking a full-time Research Program Coordinator (RPC) for Project CONNECTS (Communication and Outcomes that eNhaNce Equity in Childhood Tonsillectomy and Sleep). The RPC will be primarily responsible for coordinating and executing day-to-day functions of the research conducted across Baltimore-area Johns Hopkins clinic sites. Recruit, enroll, and consent participants; collect data before, during, and after the clinic visits; and enter data and maintain secure data transfer and storage. The RPC will also train and conduct semi-structured interviews with select research participants. Will assist with coding and mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) analysis of audio-recorded clinical encounters and interviews. In addition, the RPC should be independently comfortable interacting with children, their parents, surgical nurses, and surgeons. The RPC will work as part of a dynamic team which includes clinician investigators, research scientists, and program staff who support cross-cutting research on patient-physician communication and health disparities in many disciplines.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Screen, recruit, and enroll study participants according to protocol eligibility criteria. Enrolled participants will include parents, children (the patients), and surgical clinicians practicing Otolaryngology.
- Review patient medical charts to determine potential eligibility.
- Obtain informed consent from study participants as dictated by study.
- Collect and organize study data through study protocols, interviews, and data entry.
- Perform data collection, including administration of outcome measures before and after clinical encounters and audio recording the patient encounters during active clinic sessions.
- Conduct semi-structured research interviews with participants in-person and on remote platforms (Zoom).
- Coordinate, manage, enter, and store study data including transcripts, audio recordings, and survey data.
- Work with coding staff to ensure accuracy and timely analysis of each encounter.
- Oversee and distribute financial honoraria to participants and maintain all required certifications and documentation for compliance with remuneration program.
- Perform routine queries and basic descriptive analyses of data.
- Produce bi-weekly data reports for presentation to research team and subsites.
- Travel to external clinic sites including East Baltimore, Bayview, Greenspring, or White Marsh for study protocols and participant recruitment. JH provides shuttle transportation if needed.
- Assist with clerical duties, manuscript preparation, slide and presentation preparation.
- Assist with running errands related to study.
- Participate or support additional projects related to patient-physician communication, which may include working with other related investigators in the School of Medicine.
- Participate in coding and mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) analysis of audio-recorded clinical encounters and interviews.
- Additional opportunities for professional development and independent research for interested and qualified candidates.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree.
- Experience/interest in pediatric healthcare and working with parents/families.
- Proficiency or fluency in Spanish.
- Motivated and self-directed individual who works independently.
- Mastery in working with Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel).
- Skilled writer and editor, willingness to provide writing sample.
- Experience working with REDCap web application and/or Stata.
- Experience or knowledge of qualitative research methods and analysis.
- Experience working with children, families, or pediatric healthcare.
- Interest, knowledge, or passion for research on implicit bias and health disparities.
- Willingness to commit to minimum 2 years on project.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
