The Johnson laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Specialist II with a background in animal physiology to assist with a fully funded 1-year project evaluating a novel implantable eye pressure sensor in rabbits. The work will involve the planning and execution of a number of experiments involving the implantation of the device into the eye, multimodal measurement of intraocular pressure and aqueous humor dynamics, clinical examinations of the eye, and histological evaluation of the ocular tissues.
The candidate will also contribute to data analysis and reporting in the form of co-authorship on conference presentations and published research manuscripts.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Planning and organizing surgical implantation of an intraocular pressure sensor.
- Assisting ophthalmic surgeons with experimental ocular surgery.
- Clinical examinations and ocular measurements.
- Detailed record keeping.
- Basic data analysis.
- Assisting the PI with data analysis and manuscript preparation.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Two years laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
- Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Must be highly organized, able to keep detailed and precise research documentation; understands and able to practice sterile technique; able to work with basic physiological equipment.
- Prior experience working with live rabbits.
- Prior experience in ophthalmology or visual sciences.
