The Student Services Excellence Initiative (SSEI) team is hiring a Business Analyst to serve on a team developing and implementing student services process, policy, organizational and technological enhancements, focused on the areas of academic advising, registration, financial aid, and student billing.


The Business Analyst will be responsible for key business analysis and deliverables and must be able to prioritize competing demands to meet required deadlines. They must be able to produce high-quality written reports and present complex information to colleagues and university leadership. As a member of a small, nimble team, they will identify and execute opportunities for improved efficiencies, enhanced student/staff/faculty experiences, and strengthened associated compliance requirements.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Must demonstrate performance in the following areas.


Analytics & Problem Solving

  • Use various methodologies (e.g., Business Process Management (BPM), Lean, Six Sigma, Agile) to approach typical and complex situations while being able to adapt to changing circumstances and new requirements. (While experience in these areas is preferred, training may be provided as applicable.)
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews related to data analysis, data interpretation, and process design to identify, recommend, and solve business problems.
  • Construct and/or lead data analysis by ensuring efficient data collection, instructing on analytical choices, conducting research and summarizing conclusions and recommendations to produce high-quality deliverables.


Managing Projects & People

  • Coordinate activities to complete assigned work efficiently which includes delegating and using appropriate project and divisional resources.
  • Collaborate closely with the program managers and functional leads and other team members to develop deliverables, briefings, presentation and workshop materials, infographics, and analyses, among other tasks.
  • Establish knowledge of financial, business, and technological practices around the university in order to effectively support projects.
  • Assess change readiness among stakeholders identifying and helping mitigate implementation barriers and risks as needed.


Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Independently lead stakeholder interviews and/or design sessions by running well organized meetings.
  • Quickly establish credibility for the project by proactively building strategic working relationships.
  • Appropriately seek stakeholder input and cooperation while ensuring project goals are met.
  • Effectively obtain stakeholder feedback and appropriately respond to their concerns.

Professional Acumen

  • Demonstrate JHUs core values as well as a high level of self-awareness to respond to all situations and people with poise, professionalism, and appropriate communications.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately influence various audiences and levels of project leadership including risks and recommendations to project management.
  • Develop and implement tools, training, methodology, or other programs for the stakeholders and/or the project.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 

  • Outstanding leadership and analytical skills, excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, and strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of process mapping and experience using process improvement methodologies (e.g., BPM, Lean, Six Sigma, Agile).
  • Experience successfully executing business process redesign, requirements gathering/analysis, and data gathering and analysis responsibilities.
  • Mastery of Microsoft applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
  • Capacity to quickly earn the trust of others, facilitate meetings, and develop positive working relationships across the organization.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education, financial analysis, project management, student services (particularly academic advising, billing, registration, and/or financial aid), and/or consulting experience is desired.

Starting Salary Range: $61,070-$83,900-$106,710 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
