POSITION SUMMARY

USA Lacrosse is looking for a motivated and organized team player to join our National Teams department as the Manager, National Teams Development Program.  In this role you get to work with young athletes who are aspiring to play lacrosse at the top level and compete as a USA Lacrosse National Team athlete.  In this crucial role, you will oversee all operational and administrative aspects of the National Team Development Program (NTDP).  You will be the "behind the scenes" person who takes care of all the logistical and operational areas such as program development and planning and organizing all operational and logistical area to ensure NTDP events and competitions are a positive, competitive, and rewarding experience for all athletes, coaches, and staff.  You get to be the conduit and voice of the NTDP, working with internal USA Lacrosse team members to market and support the program, aspiring athletes and their families and coaches to help them see their dreams come true to try out for USA Lacrosse's Select Teams for a chance to one day compete as a USA Lacrosse National Team athlete, while working with external partners and vendors to ensure they have the best events and competitions to participate in and have access to top equipment for optimal performance.

A Typical Day Looks Like…

  • Oversees the management, operations, and execution of all aspects of the National Team Development Program (NTDP) to ensure the program is set up for growth success, is scalable, and aligns with the mission of USA Lacrosse’s National Teams. This includes partnering with the events and facilities teams to lead the management of all aspects of the NTDP’s events, including regional evaluations, national camps, international showcases, and events at USA Lacrosse’s headquarters (Fall Classic). 
  • Establishes and maintains key relationships with athletes, coaches, staff, partners, vendors, donors, and program and club operators to ensure communication and outreach about USA Lacrosse’s NTDP, its objectives, and initiatives. This includes initiating and responding to written and verbal correspondence sent to the NTDP and National Teams department.
  • Oversees the selection and hiring of NTDP evaluators, coaches, staff, and officials while ensuring engagement with local program and club operators. This includes putting the proper tools and processes in place to guarantee a fair and equitable evaluation of all athletes trying out for the USA Lacrosse Select Teams while continually evaluating methods used to ensure best practices are in place, making adjustments as needed.    
  • Manages the NTDP business plan and budget for the program, making recommendations for improvements based on prior program performance and as identified.
  • Creates and manages the NTDP curriculum, including defining player eligibility and selection criteria. This includes developing policies, protocols, timelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the NTDP.
  • Partners with the marketing and communications team to create and implement a communication strategy for the NTDP from launch to execution the ensure brand alignment in messaging with a national reach to high school athletes and coaches to develop a quality pool of diverse and driven athletes. This includes ensuring a digital presence, timely press releases, and scheduled promotional materials.   
  • Partners with and collaborates with USA Lacrosse’s Sport Growth and Development team to establish an extended player and coach pathway to the NTDP. This includes developing and delivering presentations about the program to raise awareness and continue to grow the program.   
  • Serves as a member of the NTDP staff for all team events and competitions. This includes, but is not limited to, traveling with the team during events and competitions to provide logistical and operational support and assistance to the NTDP players, coaches, and staff to ensure they have a positive and successful experience so they can focus on competing at the highest level.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for NTDP athletes, families, coaches, staff, and internal USA Lacrosse departments, and external vendors/partners (i.e., hotels, facilities, competitions organizers, equipment and apparel vendors, restaurants etc.). This includes providing thorough communication and responding in a timely manner to any inquires to guarantee all parties are on the same page and have the necessary information for success of the NTDP. 
  • Manages the coordination of all NTDP events and competitions for USA Lacrosse Select Teams and their opponents (domestic and international), including, but not limited to, coordinates and books travel accommodations, manages competition schedules, coordinates roster and documentation collection, secures equipment and apparel, etc.
  • Serves as the liaison between USA Lacrosse’s MedStar personnel and the athletes to ensure all necessary medical information and documentation has been completed as required.
  • Stays current on other developmental program initiatives and events by other governing bodies to ensure USA Lacrosse is offering best-in-class events and competitions for an exceptional experience to continue to fuel the growth of lacrosse and provide a pipeline of quality athletes for USA Lacrosse’s National Teams.
  • Serve as a champion for the NTDP and USA Lacrosse with diversity, equity, inclusion, and opportunity always at the forefront of all NTDP programs and initiatives.

Is This You…

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the field of team and/or sports management, event management, sport marketing, or related field. This includes experience providing administrative and operational oversight and management for an athletic team and/or program. 
  • Previous lacrosse experience a plus, but not required. Knowledge of athlete/sport program and policy development, marketing, and operational management experience with in-depth knowledge of event operations and knowledge and understanding of athletes and/or team sports. 
  • Ability to manage an operational budget. Previous experience creating a budget a plus. 
  • Intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Teamworks and SalesForce a plus and/or the aptitude to learn new software programs and applications.  
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously with the ability to prioritize on the fly to meet deadlines.
  • Proven experience managing and organizing large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data. This includes the ability to report on the data as requested for business/data-driven decisions to be made. 
  • Enthusiastic go-getter with a "roll up your sleeves" and "get it done" attitude. Must be comfortable "getting in the weeds" to get things done.   
  • Ability to maintain a calm and composed demeanor and persona under pressure/stressful situations. This includes the ability to work appropriately and respectfully with high profile and influential individuals in the sport.  
  • Comfortable managing others and giving directions in an event setting.
  • Ability to exercise the appropriate level of discretion and judgement with the capability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information and materials.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships. Must be able to handle conflict professionally and respectfully when it arises.   
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule, including availability to work nights and weekends and travel based on event needs. This position will require overnight travel for NT events.    
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop, grow, and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind.
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse's Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan to support our initiatives and organizational goals.

Expected Hours of Work

USA Lacrosse's core business hours are 8am to 8pm, Monday through Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturday.  This position is generally expected to work from 8:30am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.  There will be occasional requirements for longer hours and travel during the week and/or on weekends based on events/competitions and other business needs.  This is a hybrid position and works from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD three (3) days a week with the flexibility to work from home two (2) days a week. 

Travel Requirements

Travel will be necessary up to 25% of the time (domestic and international).  Travel would involve the following mode(s) of travel: car, train, or air.  Some out of area and overnight travel will be expected.
