Under the direction of the Executive Audio Producer, we are seeking an Audio Produce who will work with Bloomberg faculty and other subject matter experts to record digital audio content for use in online courses and trainings, and for other venues. As a staff member in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Audio Producer will collaborate with team members and JHSPH faculty to develop graduate level educational content.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Record digital audio content for use in online courses, trainings, and for other venues.
  • Supervise equipment and studio set up, preparation of audio recordings files, and is responsible for editorial integrity and quality of recorded product, which involves analyzing material for the faculty and the viewer.
  • Advise, direct, and guide faculty prior to and during recording session on content, delivery, clarity, and continuity.
  • Assist faculty in preparation for recording sessions, including various coaching strategies, practice sessions, and script and slide reviews. The producer must pay attention to all elements that make up lecture content including universal design, use of color, description of images, layout, pronouns, and accessibility while maintaining an awareness that the student will see and hear in the finished version.
  • Assure efficient execution of projects, scheduling resources, working with CTL leaders and staff, coordinating pre- and post-production details and file management with appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare documentation about each lecture segment allowing technical writers, instructional designers, audio editors, and medical illustrator to create the best quality product. This includes uploading all audio, ppt, and pdf files for each lecture recording as these steps are crucial to the CTL timeline and final product.
  • Identify potential production roadblocks within workflow.
  • Investigate and share innovative solutions and efficiencies to create the ideal faculty encounter.
  • Coordinate with Executive Producer, Production Coordinator, and other staff to troubleshoot problems or issues related to audio design and final production.
  • Exercise extensive knowledge and methodology of online learning and audio design.
  • Utilize custom course management system (CMS) tools designed specifically for CoursePlus platform and CTL.
  • Demonstrate technological expertise both for onsite equipment and software for remote recording.
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging trends in eLearning as it relates to current instructional design and academic programming.
  • Pursue professional development activities to expand knowledge and maintain skills.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with peers and other University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.
  • Foster a positive long-term client relationship by accurately assessing their needs and by delivering effective and creative solutions.
  • Edit raw, in-studio and remote audio recordings (using audio production software) to produce polished lecture presentations. This may involve audio edits, copyright edits, time cues, and additional communications for next steps in workflow and CTL production timeline when files are passed to production coordinator.
  • Handle multiple audio projects and recordings simultaneously in a high paced environment.


Special Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Proficient in organizational, communication and computer skills.

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of recording studio audio systems.
  • Able to maintain audio studio spaces in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Possess extensive computer software knowledge including but not limited to Pro Tools, Camtasia, Captivate, Acrobat, Adobe CC, Excel, Power Point, Keynote, Word, etc.

  • Possess strong writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professional, diplomatic, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at JHSPH and within the public health community, including standards of objectivity, balance, and fairness.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Audio Production, instruction design, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in recording, preferably in an academic or broadcast setting.
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogy
  • Strong Communication skills.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional experience may substitute for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $26.78-$36.86-$46.94 HRLY (Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Casual / On Call 
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm ~ 10.00 hrs/week

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
