Position Details:

Loyola University Maryland (Loyola) seeks an experienced, innovative and strategic leader to serve as Dean of the School of Education. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mission-driven, collaborative individual with enthusiasm for Loyola's mission and a strong vision for academic programs, innovation, and partnerships to lead the school to levels of greater regional and national prominence. Jesuit values are infused into the curriculum and the community, including that of Cura Personalis, care for the entire person- mind, body, and spirit with a deep respect for individual differences.

Founded in 1852, Loyola is one of 27 Jesuit institutions of higher education in the United States. The community includes approximately 5,140 undergraduate and graduate students, more than 457 full- and part-time faculty, 682 staff members and administrators, and nearly 70,000 alumni. Attracting undergraduate students primarily from the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast and regional graduate students, Loyola's School of Education offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and programs for initial certification in elementary education, special education and secondary education, with advanced degrees and programs in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, educational technology, school counseling, literacy education, Kodaly music education, Montessori education, teaching English language learners (TELL), and continuing education to over 700 graduate students and approximately 90 undergraduate students.

There is much strength upon which the new Dean can build. The School of Education has outstanding partnerships with the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the area K-12 public schools. The School of Education also includes the newly launched Center for Equity, Leadership and Social Justice in Education. The 29 full-time faculty and 31 part-time faculty are known for their dedication, exceptional classroom teaching, strong research portfolios, meaningful relationships with students and commitment to innovation. Alumni boast excellent placement rates upon graduation. They contribute their excellent skills and commitment to student success in schools, school systems and organizations throughout the Baltimore community, the Mid-Atlantic, and beyond.

In the next Dean, the School of Education seeks a dynamic visionary and a strategist who will creatively enhance Loyola's reputation, visibility, and reach. The Dean must ensure the continued high quality of the curriculum and programs in a competitive market; continue the commitment to academic excellence in pedagogy; expand enrollment at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; deepen and expand our partnership with community members, school systems and organizations; promote outstanding faculty research; advocate for the school through donor engagement, Board development and fundraising opportunities; make data-driven, strategic decisions; and foster a welcoming and inclusive culture that supports and elevates all forms of diversity across all constituencies. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean must support a collaborative approach and a willingness to invite new and innovative ideas from the community. The next Dean needs to deeply support faculty and students and have the requisite humility to serve others. Demonstrated leadership experience in education and a complex educational organization is required. Loyola is a liberal arts, Catholic, Jesuit institution that delivers mission-driven pedagogy to individuals who will serve in a diverse and changing world. Our focus on social justice is a differentiator in the field. Thus, it is essential that the Dean be committed to the ideals that have guided Jesuit universities for nearly 500 years—academic excellence, cura personalis (care for the whole person), service, justice, diversity, and integrity.

A doctoral degree from an accredited institution is required as well as a record of successful teaching and outstanding scholarship commensurate with tenure as a full professor. The successful candidate will receive expedited tenure review for faculty status.
