We are seeking a Research Program Assistant who is needed to work across two research studies. Both studies focus on hospital quality improvement. One study examines inpatient electronic medical record data to determine indicators, particularly from nursing notes, of patient respiratory decompensation. The other study examines methods of learning about diagnostic quality from emergency department patients after they have been discharged. Along with other members of the study team, the research assistant will oversee day-to-day data collection and management for research study(ies), in support of the PI, postdoc, research or administrative staff. Work will be conducted largely online and may include delivering surveys, conducting qualitative interviews, and facilitate focus groups. Work consists of running and writing both standard and non-standard reports and analyzing routine data. The Research Program Assistant will also assist the study coordinator with administrative duties as assigned in addition to attending team meetings.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in data management and analysis from a large database of electronic medical records.
- Screen participants for eligibility according to the research protocol.
- Schedule appointments with eligible participants.
- Perform informed consent and standardized surveys with persons.
- Follow all study IRB approved protocols and procedures.
- Attend team meetings.
- Support overall study coordination and implementation.
- Communicate with Study Coordinator and Principal Investigator about all schedule changes and study related issues.
- Other research related activities as assigned by study coordinator and/or PI.
- Input records and data management in systems such as Excel, REDCap, or a similar system.
- Assists with data extraction from Epic Hyperspace.
- Contribute to reports, publications, project summaries and grant proposals.

- Work, volunteer, and/or life experience working with medical data.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and self-motivation is critical.
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills required.
- Must be able to work independently and effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Must be able to interact effectively with study participants and coworkers from diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Some related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some college courses or Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
- Quantitative and/or qualitative research experience.
- Study coordination experience.
- Interest in quality improvement in hospital and emergency department settings.
- Some administrative experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00-$18.90-$22.50 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
