General Description
The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce a position for an Early Childhood Dance Coordinator.
The Early Childhood Dance Coordinator will coordinate Peabody Preparatory's Young Children's Program, which currently represents over 80 students. The position provides a comprehensive dance education of both group instruction to students with a broad range of abilities, backgrounds, and ages.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Faculty
- Coordinate and mentor Dance faculty in the unique needs of students aged 2-7 years
- Perform faculty evaluation program for Dance faculty who teach Young Children's Program classes
- Work with Department Chair on hiring needs for the Young Children's Program classes.
- As needed, serve on hiring committees for Dance specific interviews.
- Work with Department Chair to coordinate the onboarding of all new Dance specific hires.
- Supported by the Department Chair, manage and work to resolve any Dance faculty issues that may develop throughout the year
- Work with Department Chair to coordinate Dance substitute lists for the Young Children's Program classes.
- Coordinate Young Children's Program-specific faculty meetings as needed
Curriculum
- Create, revise, and implement Dance curriculum to ensure a comprehensive educational trajectory for all Dance students aged 2-7 years
- Create, revise, and implement Dance curriculum for a Caregiver & Me class for children who are not yet ready to take class independently
Students & Families
- Work with the Department Chair to determine and manage Dance specific marketing needs for the Young Children's Program
- Work with the Department Chair to coordinate the creation of content for Dance specific course catalog, area publications, web pages, and social media
- Work with the Department Chair and Dance Academic Program Coordinator to coordinate the Dance new student placement process for the Young Children's Program
- Work with the Department Chair and Dance Academic Program Coordinator to coordinate Dance specific student transfers
- Coordinate and attend all Dance specific events, performances, and master classes offered for children aged 2-7
- Supported by the Department Chair, as needed, work to resolve any Dance student or parent issues that may develop throughout the year
Budget
- Under the supervision of the Department Chair, manage Dance specific budgets as needed
Administration
- Coordinate with Department Chair on implementing plans for Dance expansion in the Young Children's Program
- Work with the Department Chair and Preparatory Education Manager to coordinate Dance specific performances and events as needed
- Coordinate department enrollments and class details in ASAP, Peabody's online registration system working closely with Dance Academic Program Coordinator
- Work with Department Chair and Dance Academic Program Coordinator on communication decisions on under-enrolled classes with Dance faculty and families
- Coordinate Dance specific additional external performances beyond the regular season
- Represent Dance faculty at department meetings.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Dance or a related field is required. A Master's in Dance or arts or business administration is preferred. Candidates with a performing career and strong administrative skills but no bachelor's degree will also be considered.
- Dance Pedagogy Degree
- Candidate should have strong administrative experience (supervisory experience in an academic institution or dance school is a plus) and be committed to mentoring faculty and teaching students of all ages with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds in group class settings.
- Community dance school experience preferred
- Ability to work collegially but independently
- Ability to multi-task and think strategically
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
- Possess a high comfort level with technology, ideally with extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite products; online database management systems experience preferred.
