We are seeking a Director of Strategic Planning  (Sr. Program Manager) who will report to the Associate Dean for Graduate & Professional Programs and will lead, coordinate, and manage multiple strategic initiatives as defined by the Dean and as part of Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) and the Office of Summer and Intersession programs strategic planning. The Director of Strategic Initiatives will be a member of the Associate Dean's Senior Leadership Team and will work closely with the AAP Associate Dean to develop new KSAS revenue streams.

 

Some initiatives include expanding international and domestic activities and programs, leading faculty in developing new initiatives, and a significant amount of proposal writing. The Director of Strategic Initiatives will work with AAP leadership, faculty, and other key stakeholders to identify opportunities (e.g., JHU General Council, the Provost's office, Communications, and Institutional Research).

 

The position requires excellent writing, research, data analytics, and copyediting skills. Experience developing reports in various systems that support higher education initiatives and using public data services such as IPEDS, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, EMSI, etc., and private services such as EAB and UPCEA.

 

The position is based either at the JHU campus in Washington, D.C., or Baltimore, with frequent travel to either location. The position will also be responsible for working strategically with university partners to provide direction to and represent the interests of KSAS in the physical move to 555 Pennsylvania Avenue. The Director has one direct report: the AAP Operations Administrator.  

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify new credit and non-credit opportunities for AAP and OSIP in the domestic and international markets
  • Establish relationships with businesses, government agencies, and non-profits domestically and internationally that increase B2B opportunities
  • Work with research vendors to develop a research plan to identify new program opportunities
  • Creating research-based feasibility studies for decision-making purposes from a variety of data sources
  • Select and analyze data from various public and private entities to inform decision-making
  • Write research-based proposals ant and writing
  • Collaborate with faculty for new ideas and to meet revenue goals
  • Lead faculty in the ideation and implementation stages for new proposals and programs
  • Collaborate with Sr. Leadership team members in the ideation and new program launch stages

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory): 

  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • At least five years of related experience in a university or business development setting, with at least three years managing staff

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Doctorate, Juris Doctor, or MBA Degree
  • Work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility—experience in higher education, financial and data analysis, and new program initiatives both internationally and domestically

  • The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership and project management skills, excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, and strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and strong planning/logistics management skills
  • Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of others, facilitate meetings, and develop relationships across the organization and externally
  • Proven ability to effectively work across diverse constituencies and stakeholders in moving projects along
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and persuade
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy individually and as part of a complex team effort
  • Ability to manage diverse tasks with frequent interruptions, meet deadlines with competing demands
  • Ability to build and manage productive relationships with external partners
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and self-confidence

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite, especially M.S. Excel, and strong fluency with Tableau and Qualtrics and/or other data reporting systems
