We are seeking a Technology & Entrepreneurship Librarian who will report to the Assistant Director for Academic Liaison and Special Collections. This role will serve as a member of the Academic Liaison Department, the Technology and Entrepreneurship Librarian (TEL) provide research and instructional support to meet the growing demand across the University for services and resources that support innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

Such programs and courses are found on the Homewood Campus in the Whiting School of Engineering and Carey Business School where students envision, develop, and transform ideas into real world products and services. The TEL will participate in a team including librarians for business, economics, and engineering, which focuses on supporting the information needs of students, faculty, and staff involved in technology and entrepreneurship. As part of the team, the TEL will explore and test ways to support constituents across multiple campuses in research, coursework, and experiential learning.

 

In this liaison-focused library, we support a high level of proactive interaction between faculty, students and the librarian. Academic Liaison librarians work both in teams and autonomously to provide resources and services to a very engaged community.

 

Interested candidates from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, including early career librarians who are eager to contribute and who want to grow professionally through mentorship by a team of collaborative colleagues, are encouraged to apply.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advising users on navigating library resources in engineering, medicine, health care, and business
  • Providing instructional and research support to classes and groups that have an innovation or entrepreneurship component, including conducting market research and developing competitive intelligence reports
  • Exploring the information landscape that supports innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Advising on the library's collection strategies in this area
  • Contributing to innovative online communication tools to help enable our users' work
  • Working effectively in an organization in which change is both necessary and constant
  • Participating in departmental activities, including contributions to social media, providing general research consultation, and actively contributing to Academic Liaison working groups
  • Working with teams both internally in the Sheridan Libraries and externally across all JHU libraries to coordinate services, initiate projects and implement programs
  • Evening and weekend hours

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or an advanced related degree
  • Three years professional library experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specialized online information resources relating to technology and entrepreneurship in business, engineering, and health care

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using business, financial, and market research information resources
  • Educational or experiential background in innovation or entrepreneurship
  • Experience with or knowledge of trends in health sciences, technology, and/or business
  • Familiarity or experience with data analytics
  • Familiarity with patents and patent searching
  • Experience providing reference, instruction, or research support in an academic library setting
  • Experience with systematic reviews

 

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to build positive relationships with faculty, students, and staff from a wide range of specialized fields including engineering, health sciences, and social sciences
  • Strong background and/or interest in one or more of the fields listed above, and an understanding of the research lifecycle within these fields
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, learn, and implement emerging and evolving technologies into library services and instruction
  • Advanced cultural competency that demonstrates an interest in participating in and leading discussions, initiatives, and collection development activities that reflect diversity and inclusion issues relevant to students, faculty, staff, and the community
  • Ability to contribute to the development of new and innovative services
  • Ability to assess work plans and activities, make adjustments as needed, and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Strong consultative and analytical skills
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness

 

Classified Title: Librarian III
Working Title: Technology and Entrepreneurship Librarian

Starting Salary Range: $59,870 - $82,250 annually (commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time 
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
