The Data for Health Initiative's Gender Equity Unit is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and housed in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The Initiative works in over 25 low- and middle-income countries. The Gender Equity Unit is seeking a motivated and experienced Program Manager to be part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team focused on improving gender equity in health data collection, analysis, and use across settings and populations.

 

The Program Manager will primarily support the work of the Senior Program Officer including the management and development of an online global course, website content development and maintenance, among other programmatic tasks supporting the initiatives of the Gender Equity Unit. Funding for this position is guaranteed through March 2023, with a possible extension for one to two additional years. The position is located in Baltimore, MD; however, remote candidates may apply.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and implementation of an online foundations course on gender in health data by adapting content material from the Gender Foundations in Heath Data webinar series, identifying and writing new content for online curriculum, working with the team and partner organizations to build course content and aid in the collection of relevant course data.
  • Manage content and agenda development for events, including conferences, summits, and community-of-practice events.
  • Write content with Communications/Marketing Associate for various outlets and channels, including but not limited to blog posts, social media posts, content briefs, and op-eds.
  • Provide overall coordination for programmatic tasks to ensure deliverables meet agreed-upon requirements and deadlines. This includes supporting the preparation of monthly and yearly narrative reports to funders.
  • Maintain strong record keeping and documentation of program team work product.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Gender Equity team and funders.
  • Serve as back-up to other staff focused on research activities, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate progress in ability to multi-task and manage time spent working with individual team members and on specific projects.
  • Contribute to a range of other activities and initiatives within the Gender Equity Unit, including project management, grant proposal writing, and strategic planning.
  • Ability to travel internationally to assist with programmatic activities (as is reasonable given the COVID-19 pandemic).

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline required.
  • Five (5) years of work-related experience required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.        
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*

 

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits  (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. 

 

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Related Master's Degree preferred.
  • Strong interest in and some experience with global gender equity work preferred.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to work independently, and strong interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Must be experienced in handling multiple tasks at once and working well as a member of a team.
  • A working knowledge of computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word is required.    

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time.     
  • Ability to use a keyboard and move about.
  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.

  • Ability to travel internationally to assist with programmatic activities (as is reasonable given the COVID-19 pandemic).
