Academic Program Specialist - (220000O9)

The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Nursing (UMSON) is currently recruiting for an Academic Program Specialist.

The Office of Professional Education (OPE) provides support in managing and carrying out varied initiatives including, workshops, seminars, professional development activities and all grant funded activities projects. The mission of the Office of Professional Education is to strengthen the future of nursing through creative and innovative learning opportunities in nursing, Interprofessional education, research and practice. Much of OPE's activity is managing professional development activities; thus, writing, grant management, and preparation of reports is a frequent activity as is coordination of OPE's initiatives.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Coordinates administrative processes involved in supporting educational grant programs which typically include recruitment, selection, admission, registration, orientation, and progression of students or participants.
  • Assists in planning and coordinates all activities involved in organizing lectures, conferences, seminars, workshops, symposiums, and professional development activities.
  • Assist in the design, edits, and prepares drafts of marketing, public relations, and other informational materials. Coordinates printing and publication requirement with University or other external resources.
  • Collects and enters information needed for database and tracking system on program activities. Complies statistics, presents there is table or chart format, and prepares reports for program evaluation, compliance, and survey participation purposes.
  • Prepares, organizes, and disseminates class, conference, or meeting schedules, course descriptions, outlines, syllabus, handouts, and other similar materials through close coordination with faculty.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant, contract, and project proposals.
  • Serves as a liaison between faculty and department staff regarding payroll, benefits, reimbursements, and other administrative matters. Assists with travel, housing, and visa requirements.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree. Bachelor's degree in Health, Education, Humanities (or a related field) preferred.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in administrative staff work.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prior academic experience working with grants. Working knowledge of web-page architecture and maintenance.

OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: General knowledge of business english, spelling, and grammer. General knowledge of and skill in the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software to produce documents and maintain information. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations. Ability to present statistical material in table, chart, or graph form. Ability to plan, organize, and prioitize multiple tasks and assignmnets. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.

Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).

Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,397
