The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) is part of the Education Department in the School of Medicine. OCME provides accredited continuing medical education to healthcare professionals.
We are seeking an Accreditation & Compliance Specialist who will be responsible for oversight and management of all accredited continuing medical education (CME) activities to ensure that all activities are in full compliance with Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) guidelines, policies, and procedures. The position works closely with faculty and staff from throughout the School of Medicine and the University.
The Accreditation and Compliance Specialist reports to the Associate Dean for CME and is a member of the OCME's management team. They work closely with other members of OCME and faculty and staff from throughout the School of Medicine and the University.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develops and oversees the day-to-day operations (i.e., reviewing documents and processes) for all activities related to compliance.
- Develops, coordinates, and participates in educational and training programs that focus on elements of ACCME compliance, and ensures that all appropriate stakeholders are knowledgeable of the compliance regulations
- Investigates on matters related to activity compliance.
- Enforces standards through appropriate interventions.
- Collaborates with departments and institutions to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends related to educational needs.
- Identifies broad potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
- Interviews prospective activity directors to ensure their proposed activities fall within ACCME and OCME guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Reviews all CME applications for completeness and compliance prior to forwarding to Advisory Board Reviewers.
- Reviews and approves brochures and other printed/posted marketing materials and syllabi for compliance with ACCME and OCME guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Reviews speaker disclosures for all CME activities and manages conflict of interest as necessary.
- Ensures that the processes and activities accredited by CME are in compliance with ACCME standards, and that processes and activities not accredited by CME are in compliance with the policies of the university.
- Serves as a liaison between Advisory Board Reviewers and Activity Directors when problems surface during the CME application review process.
- Ensures OCME staff are knowledgeable of current accreditation and compliance requirements; monitors staff knowledge
- Completes special projects related to accreditation and compliance as directed by the Associate Dean and Director of OCME. Provides ongoing support to OCME staff and Activity Directors
- Assists with the coordination and implementation of CME activities on an as-needed basis.
- Monitors the needs assessment process and objectives development.
- Works with the Associate Dean for and Director of OCME to evaluate needs assessment and other data in order to identify potential improvements.
- Manages content validation/review process for CME activities, including coordinating with CME staff and/or content reviewers.
- Ensures appropriate CME language is used in all activities and materials Determines the number of credit-hours for each CME activity.
- Reviews and maintains CME policies, procedures, and templates,
- Engages in continuous quality improvement to ensure efficient processes regarding policies, procedures, and templates.
- Monitors open and closed program files to ensure completeness of documents.
- Oversees communication with ACCME regarding annual reports, surveys and reaccreditation requirements.
- Oversees reaccreditation processes, including working with the Associate Dean for and Director of OCME and other staff to develop timelines, collect materials, write and/or review self-study, and prepare surveys. Responds to internal and external stakeholder questions.
- Works with Associate Dean for and Director of OCME to to conduct an annual internal self-study.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years' experience.
- Additional education in a related field may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Background/knowledge of ACCME regulations.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to develop spreadsheets for data analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams of professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including faculty and staff.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
- Must be able to manipulate Excel or similar spreadsheet software programs to analyze data and prepare reports
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in person using spoken English.
- Must be able to communicate via telephone and videoconferencing (such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams).
- Must be able to carry out support of programs that require extensive work at a computer.
- Occasionally lifting, carrying objects weighing 10lbs. or less.
- Occasionally pushing, pulling objects weighing 30lbs. or less.

Starting Salary Range: $51,210 - $70,480 annually (commensurate with experience)
