Reporting to a Senior Assistant Director, this Assistant Director position will supervise the Office of University Admissions Student Staff, a cohort of approximately 20 current Towson University students who serve as customer service representatives and office assistants. In addition, as a member of the Freshman Admissions Team, the selected individual will serve as an official representative of Towson University and aid in the successful strategic planning and recruitment of qualified students from inside and outside the state of Maryland. This role will also be responsible for reviewing admission applications, for providing information concerning the University to prospective students and their families, for assisting with various marketing activities, and for developing relationships with school counselors, TU alumni, and other external constituents.
Oversee and manage the student employee team as they perform customer service functions, outreach, and data-entry. Responsible for the hiring and onboarding of student workers, providing continuous training & development, and managing the staff budget, schedule, and communications. Manage a specific recruitment territory for freshman admissions. Conduct in-state and out-of-state visits, college fairs, and specific events related to undergraduate student recruitment and enrollment. Conduct in-person and virtual information sessions for prospective students and families in addition to other recruitment events. Assist with marketing campaigns and personalized outreach campaigns via phone, email, text, notes, events, etc. Actively participate in open houses and other TU recruitment/yield events. Develop a specific territory outreach plan to proactively outreach to prospective students.
Counsel prospective, newly admitted and currently enrolled freshman students on admission to TU. Represent TU by providing excellent customer service and answer questions for the freshman population via phone, email, in-person and virtual meetings. Understand admissions policies and requirements to ensure success within freshman admissions. Provide information presentations during campus visits. Evaluate freshman student applications for admission and scholarship awards to Towson University through a holistic review process. Assist with review of transfer applications as needed.
Utilize data and enrollment trends to develop a recruitment and outreach strategy. Complete a territory report and analysis to assist with recruitment & outreach efforts. Utilize internal and external data to enhance territory management and stay on top of higher education trends in your territory. Complete general admissions duties including, but not limited to, customer service, applicant processing, holistic review, on-campus events, special projects, campus committees, and any other duties as assigned to meet the needs of enrollment and the goals of the university.
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong understanding of providing superior customer service to diverse audiences of prospective students and families and the ability to train staff on how to provide superior customer service
- Ability to present to small and large groups of people in various types of venues
- Must pay attention to detail and possess strong organizational skills
- The successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic, one who is interested in and attentive to professionalism and cross-cultural communication, and someone who actively contributes to the office welfare in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
