This position provides an opportunity to work in the IDEA (Innovation + Design Enabling Access) Initiative at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, primarily supporting the ReAct Strategic Policy Program. The IDEA Initiative seeks to reengineer how we bring health innovations to market to meet the needs of all populations, particularly those in resource-limited settings. By seeding and supporting market-shaping interventions with evidence-based analysis, the IDEA Initiative hopes to amplify the real-world impact of delivering technologies for global health, both in the U.S. and abroad. A key pillar of the IDEA Initiative is global policy work on antimicrobial resistance through the ReAct Strategic Policy Program and the Antibiotic Resistance Coalition (ARC).
The IDEA Initiative is looking for a highly talented, full-time Senior Research Program Coordinator. This position will be primarily focused on the ReAct Strategic Policy Program work, ranging from innovation and access to antibiotics to One Health dimensions of antimicrobial resistance--who would bring exemplary analytic, communication and organizational skills to our work.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The primary roles and responsibilities of the job include the following:
- Support IDEA Initiative and ReAct Strategic Policy Program research, policy convenings and outreach activities, with a particular focus on antimicrobial resistance:
- Sharing knowledge to ensure innovation and sustainable access to new health technologies and practices
- Innovative financing approaches that encourage collaborative R&D, open science arrangements and ways to share resources, risks and rewards
- Market-shaping interventions and new business models to bring drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and other complementary technologies and practices to market and to those in need
- Realigning incentives, both financial and non-financial, to improve delivery of health technologies and encourage practices that reduce the need to use antimicrobials
- Monitoring for accountability to public health goals and fair returns on public sector investments.
- Coordinate research, policy and outreach projects, collaborations with the ReAct network, and Secretariat work of the Antibiotic Resistance Coalition
- Organize educational outreach efforts, such as Innovate4Health, a global student design sprint
- Research, write and edit issue policy briefings, the ARC newsletter, fact sheets, reports and publications
- Track and monitor policy processes relevant to the goals of the program
- Conduct literature searches to support research and policy analyses
- Contribute to the teaching of students and supervision of part-time, student research assistants
- Maintain communications with research teams and key policy stakeholders
- Prepare grant proposals, annual project reports, and journal manuscripts
- Coordinate, schedule and prepare for meetings and teleconference calls for Program team for project work and with other stakeholders
- Maintain program administrative files and archives, both in hard copy and in electronic filing systems as well as prepare expense report
- Support the Director and the IDEA Initiative in other program tasks as needed
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3 years related experience
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public Health, Public Policy, Economics, Biological Sciences, or other relevant field or related field
- Major or concentration in public health or public policy with economics background
- Background or demonstrated interest in topics on innovation and access to medicines, either globally or in the U.S. context
- Research experience in health equity issues, economics, value chain analysis, social network analysis, and/or biomedical research
- Demonstrated interest in antimicrobial resistance
- Prior experience working in or with civil society organizations
- Track record of organizing policy convenings and/or coordinating teams or projects
- Previous work on managing newsletter, running student competitions, or organizing training workshops a plus
- Experience with data collection and statistical data analysis as well as facility with spreadsheet analysis and software tools
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Outstanding initiative and ability to work independently and solve problems creatively
- Highly organized with ability to set priorities among multiple tasks
- Research experience, particularly with quantitative data or economic analyses
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills essential
- Strong computer skills: effective use of Powerpoint, MailChimp, Excel, data visualization, and website design experience

Starting Salary Range: $39,310 - $54,060 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
