General Description

Primary Purpose of the Position

The IDEALS Institute in the Johns Hopkins School of Education is out to change the world and we need your help. IDEALS is focused on effective high-quality human service systems. IDEALS is seeking its next Director of Quality Early Childhood Policy and Systems to lead a line of work that creates, operates, researches, evaluates, and advocates for better integrated and aligned early childhood policies, practices, and comprehensive developmental health systems across the world. Do you understand how effective early childhood systems are crucial to all aspects of societal well-being? Do you have ideas on how quality rating and improvement models can be leveraged to ensure more equitable access for all children and increased compensation and benefits for the workforce? Do you believe that "school readiness" should be measured by more than academic performance, and know that strong ECE programs and policies can promote social-emotional, health, and foundational curiosity outcomes that will carry a child beyond school into life? If so, we want to talk with you.

You will have a faculty appointment within the School of Education in the Research Scientist track with rank based on credentials. Your work as a member of the IDEALS Leadership team will see you engaged in applied work. You will lead a team of 26 and growing, with currently two direct reports responsible for implementing specific scopes of work. These include operating Maryland's QRIS and workforce registries across the country. The efforts will see you contributing ideas and coordinating with colleagues in disciplines of marketing and communications, technology, training and PD, and finance to fulfill scopes of work and achieve the impacts we intend. You will seek to understand what works and why in transforming public policy and systems, and collaborate and lead research, evaluation, and dissemination of findings that both inform the broader field and improve the initiatives. Dissemination ranges from traditional publications and presentations to thought-leadership espoused through multi/social/mass media, legislative advocacy, and leadership of cross-agency workgroups and communities of practice.

We are a soft-funded non-profit unit within Johns Hopkins University. A track record of securing funding across a variety of sources with an expectation of continued leadership in this area is critical. Candidates who have a vision for cross-sector application of effective elements in the early childhood space to other human-service sectors like geriatrics, K-12 education, healthcare and beyond are strongly encouraged to apply.
