Position Description:
The Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) division seeks a Faculty Assistant or Associate Program Director/Sr. Lecturer to teach in and provide administrative leadership to the Biotechnology Division of the Center for Biotechnology Education. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds. The position is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month renewable faculty position with the academic title of Senior Lecturer. The Asst/Assoc. Program Director will have significant interaction/collaboration with all members of the Center (Center Director, Program Directors, Assistant Program Directors, Program Coordinators and Faculty}, as well as with the Associate Dean for AAP, other AAP Program Directors, AAP staff, and administrators. The Asst/Assoc Director reports to the Associate Dean for AAP, the Center Director, and the Program Director for Biotechnology. This position is expected to begin July 2022 and will have the following faculty and administrative responsibilities:
Faculty Responsibilities:
- Teaching five graduate courses per year, including the preparation for and time spent in the classroom (online or onsite), using best practices for online teaching, engaging and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds in the learning process, responding to student questions;
- Advising students in the Biotechnology Division, including thesis and/or capstone advising [where appropriate];
- Providing innovative leadership for curriculum design and new course development to ensure the growth and delivery of quality programs;
- Other academic duties normally performed by full-time or regular part-time faculty, such as participating on committees, attending academic events, or contributing to other academic service.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Program Director in supervising the Biotechnology Division
- Assisting the Program Director with overseeing faculty (full-time and adjunct) development, hiring, and evaluation
- Assisting in the admissions processes, including reviewing and approving applicants
- Assisting in program promotion and outreach, including interacting with outside groups and developing external / internal partnerships
- Coordinating with staff in student and faculty services, online education, marketing, finance, and enrollment services departments on operational issues related to program administration
- Assisting in the planning of onsite and/or remote events and/or seminars
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a life or computer science field
- Five years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
- The ability to teach a wide variety of courses in biotechnology
- Demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum design
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal Degree in life or computer science field
- Three years of experience equivalent to the Assistant Director level (to qualify for Associate Program Director)
- Six or more years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
- Three or more years of related professional work experience outside of academia within the biotechnology field or related areas
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and multiple deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience managing a degree or certificate program
