Reporting to the Director of Student Outreach & Support, the Case Manager maintains high student contact and a caseload to address the needs of students who have problems in areas such as physical or mental health, finances, discipline, and social adjustment that may affect their academic performance or other aspects of their JHU experience, using a variety of interventions, referrals and follow up services. Responsibilities will include student contact via regular meetings, triage, case management, and collaboration and consultation with colleagues and faculty within the Division of Student Affairs, University Administration, the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. While strong, supportive relationships may develop with students, the Case Manager does not engage in individual therapeutic relationships. This position is nine months from August 15th to May 15th annually.
Specific Duties: Student-Facing Responsibilities:
Meet 1:1 with students initially and regularly to develop individual student success plans based on their unique circumstances and track their progress towards their personal and academic goals.
Collect, evaluate and record all facts pertaining to student cases that come in through email/online management and referrals.
Document all information and communication in Advocate
Formulate intervention plans in order to enhance the academic success of students.
Contact and collaborate with other University departments to expedite resolution of problems.
Provide referrals to support services within the University as well as community agencies.
Follow up and track prior cases to ensure student compliance with recommendations and adequate staff support for the student.
Systems Management and Reporting
Create, maintain all relevant records and reports around medical leave and provide timely updates about students on medical leave and the interventions and outreach provided to them.
Maintain and monitor factual case records in a variety of electronic student record systems.
Interpret University policy regarding students and making recommendations when policy changes are needed, based on trends in data.
Prepare ad hoc reports, data requests and annual report for internal stakeholders.
Help manage COVID-19 support systems and data tracking
Outreach, Training and Education
Assist in training and consulting with faculty, staff, students, parents, and external stakeholders on reporting.
Provide relevant training around resources and support to campus partners including, but not limited to, Campus Safety and Security, Academic Advising, Counseling Center, Health and Wellness.
Develop and distribute appropriate marketing materials.
Participate fully in the programming sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, including but not limited to Orientation, Family Weekend, Senior Week, and Commencement. Some nights and weekends required.
Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, public health or related field.
Three years' experience in education or closely related setting required.
Should include experience managing response to crisis situations; experience working as part of case management support team and experience navigating complex, decentralized environments.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of online student tracking systems and database management.
Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, ability to quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources in order to make informed recommendations for the best welfare of the students.
Knowledge of current case management trends and literature preferred.
