Director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center

General DescriptionThe Director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center (the Director) serves as the leader of simulation-based experiential learning and research across Johns Hopkins Medicine. This person oversees a very busy Simulation Center that provides more than 150,000 Learner hours and more than 40,000 room hours per year. The Center is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSiH) in all five possible areas. The Director will utilize their broad experience in simulation teaching, their clinical knowledge and their excellent leadership skills to create a vision for the Center and to supervise faculty and staff. The Center uses a broad spectrum of simulation modalities including standardized patients and teaching associates, human patient simulation, virtual reality, task trainers and computerized simulation. The Director will also lead discovery and learning in simulation-based activities and be recognized as a thought leader and innovator. The Director will promote innovative and collaborative activities to prepare learners to:
The Director reports to the Vice Dean for Education and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Chief Nursing Officer, and works in close collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to education and finance leaders in the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins University Schools of Medicine and Nursing, the Johns Hopkins Health System, Johns Hopkins International and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. The successful applicant must be able and willing to devote at least 50% time to this role. Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include: (1) leading strategic operations and initiatives; (2) ensuring integrated staff operations and processes; (3) identifying and implementing synergies and a sustainable organizational structure that promotes excellence in teaching, learning, and research in simulation-based activities, (4) Identifying and planning for emerging technologies in simulation-based learning and research, and (5) identifying and leveraging relationships, and raising funds, to ensure financial sustainability. QualificationsAn advanced degree in nursing, medicine, public health, business, or simulation-based research field (ex. human factors, organizational psychology, health policy and management, etc.) is required, along with significant simulation experience to include expert knowledge about and experience in simulation techniques in healthcare and academic program development. Experience leading strategic planning, marketing, business development, and complex operations is required.
