General Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic, creative, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in web content management, writing and editing for the web, and web visual style. 


Reporting to the Digital Content Manager, the Website Editor will author, edit, manage, and coordinate content on a high-traffic public-facing website and  logged-in customer portal. She/he will be responsible for generating fresh and engaging content and content initiatives and will assist in shaping site messaging in alignment with our other platforms. 

 

The Website Editor will work closely with IT and academic program staff on standards, governance, and the maintenance and enhancement of CTY’s digital presence, ensuring all website content remains consistent with our brand and style guidelines and is optimized for the user experience.

 

The ideal candidate will be a collaborator with exceptional web editorial skills as well as strong technical and visual knowledge of the web. She/he should be a web expert who is passionate about the web and understands all aspects of the digital experience from web writing to web design, from user experience to web outreach and marketing, and can easily translate these concepts for non-technical colleagues. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Digital Content Manager and other colleagues to generate new content initiatives, track and report on content metrics. 
  • Update and maintain web content/assets, monitor content on live site and troubleshoot or escalate issues.
  • Develop processes and procedures to ensure ongoing site content accuracy and freshness on a dynamic and frequently updated site.
  • Provide direction to a Web Producer and their work, guided by the Digital Content Manager.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary project teams and influence stakeholders to optimize digital content. 
  • Manage web projects and project schedules.
  • Use knowledge of visual style to generate unique visual and design-based content for the web.
  • Assist in development of a web governance structure and a web style guide.
  • Help design and author landing pages for web marketing.
  • Ensure site content follows SEO and accessibility best practices and complies with brand voice and style guidelines.
  • Work with managers, IT staff, and vendors to execute online initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in fine arts, graphic design or other related field required.
  • Four years related experience required. Five years related web experience preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
    • JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Exceptional web fluency and web editorial skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a creative web storyteller who knows how to create engaging content optimized for search.
  • Understands how digital platforms intersect and how they can be used synchronously to support and reinforce content and messaging.
  • Knowledge of and expertise in HTML, CSS, content management systems (Drupal preferred), accessibility, and web publishing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Adobe platforms and demonstrated design and graphics experience.
  • Deep knowledge of the web and web best practices.
  • Knowledge of cross-platform digital analytics, especially Google Analytics.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and across departments.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
