General Summary/Purpose:

FastForward U (FFU) is a program within Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) operated by the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) to provide targeted, critical, early-stage support to startups, ventures and student projects that are associated with Johns Hopkins University. The Student Program Manager supports the technology commercialization activities of FastForward U by ensuring that students and student organizations at JHU have access to appropriate resources to support them in various capacities.  The Student Program Manager will be the entry point of contact for students interested in technology commercialization at JHU and will administer funding awards, manage programs, and provide project counseling and direct introductions to JHU faculty staff, and other appropriate resources to help students progress from concept to company formation. The Student Program Manager reports to the Director, Student Ventures.

Essential Job Functions:

Program Administration and Management

  • Leads and manages key processes for FastForward U programming
  • Manages selection and administers all programming for the FFU Accelerator including planning and executing Demo Day
  • Provides support and mentorship to all FFU Accelerator alumni
  • Leads and manages processes for all standalone funding opportunities

 

Advising and Assisting Students

  • Provides direct mentoring and general advising to student entrepreneurs regarding their ideas and ventures
  • Identifies and curates relevant funding opportunities for student entrepreneurs
  • Writes letters of support/recommendation as needed for certain grants or other opportunities

 

Student Intern and Event Management

  • Leads the search, interview, hiring and onboarding process for student interns along with the FFU Marketing and Operations Coordinator
  • Meets with Strategic Advisor interns periodically to receive feedback on their role and identify ways that they can further engage with FastForward U
  • Develops new roles/tasks for interns to undertake as needed
  • Coordinates resources and plans for community events along with the FFU Marketing and Operations Coordinator

 

Strategy and Communications

  • Maintains a portfolio of student venture opportunities and startups
  • Serves as a liaison to Career Services to source and promote employment opportunities within the entrepreneurial ecosystem for students
  • Drafts proposals for strategic initiatives related to student entrepreneurship
  • Delivers presentations to student groups, classes, JHU offices, and prospective students through Admissions in order to inform them about the resources provided by FastForward U
  • Act as first point of contact and liaison for new opportunities and initiatives

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Degree in STEM related field a plus.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ work experience.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • US Citizen or legal permanent resident required due to Federal Export Controls
  • Experience working in or with startups
  • Demonstrated understanding of a wide breadth of technologies, from software to life sciences
  • Ability to work as a team member with other FastForward staff
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to work through obstacles/hard problems
  • Strong written and oral communication/reporting skills
  • People skills across a wide spectrum of backgrounds: the role is outwardly facing, including working with JHU faculty/staff (academic and non-academic), entrepreneurs, MIRs, SMEs, industry leaders, and investors
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
