The Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a highly qualified Cardiac Surgeon for Surgical Director of the Children's Heart Program
The ideal candidate will have broad experience in neonatal, infant, and adult congenital pediatric cardiac surgery, with a track record of exemplary clinical results. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a dedicated US News & World Report-ranked pediatric surgical team that is the busiest in the State of Maryland. The team includes dedicated operating room personnel, intensivists, advanced practitioners, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and a world-class cardiology faculty that is committed to collaboration and excellence. Experience in all aspects of thoracic transplantation, ventricular assist device implantation, and ECMO is desirable. Faculty will have the privilege and responsibility of helping to teach all facets of cardiac surgery to integrated thoracic surgery trainees, and will expand their research and scholarly activities to achieve national and international recognition as they advance the field. The University of Maryland is a world-renowned research institution that provides a superb academic foundation for basic, clinical, and translational research. Robust opportunities exist to enhance the Division's existing research portfolio through collaboration with an array of researchers within the Department of Surgery and across the University.
About the Division :
The Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine includes 14 faculty providing cardiac surgery services at four locations and is the market leader in cardiac surgical care in the State of Maryland, with over 2000 major cardiac cases performed/year. The Division sponsors a mature integrated 6-year Cardiothoracic Training program. The Division's Lung Healing Unit supported 200 patients on ECMO in 2019. The Division is home to several NIH-funded surgeon-scientists, has a Clinical Research Unit with over 40 prospectively enrolling clinical trials, and is a site for the NHLBI-sponsored Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network.
