The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Communications and Public Affairs is currently recruiting for a Social Media Specialist who will serve as a multi-platform content developer to support, manage, and maintain a robust online presence for the University through social applications and other new media channels.

Plan, implement and monitor ongoing social media programs in support of the mission, values, goals and objectives of the University.
Proactively develop and adapt social media strategy and guidelines for use of existing or new social media channels. Evaluate emerging social media channels and envision ways that the University could use them.
Develop and manage daily written and visual content for the various University social media channels.
Coordinate with the Senior Director, Leadership Communications in the Office of the President on the daily management of the University President's Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
Create social media campaigns for diverse audiences including prospective and current students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, media, friends, advocates, partners, and supporters of the University.
Track and analyze post and campaign efficacy to ensure that goals are met and that social media activities are clearly linked to desired outcomes.
Monitor public mentions of University across the social media platforms and respond in a timely manner or raise for internal discussion as needed.
Liase with and advise social media staff in schools and various administrative departments on University social media guidelines, best practices, and other questions as they arise. Foster a two-way line of communication about social media between CPA and other departments.
Coordinate with media relations team, photographer, and videographer to ensure University events are covered on pertinent UMB social media channels.
Coordinate the University-wide Social Media Committee to maintain collaboration and develop informative social media subject matter for bi-monthly meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education: Bachelor's degree in English, fine arts, marketing, communications or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of related communications experience, preferably in managing social media marketing in a professional setting. Higher education experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated personal or professional experience with managing written and visual content for related mediums and platforms.
Thorough knowledge of current social media outlets including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Snapchat.
Experience assisting in the content development and implementation of an executive-level social media account.
A deep understanding of how to use social media for optimal audience engagement.
Able to identify audiences for various social media outlets.
Able to manage social media in a professional, higher education setting.
Creative, dynamic thinker with strong professional writing and editing skills.
Ability to work independently but also work proactively with other team members.
An aptitude for visual communication.
Ability to plan and create brief videos for social media channels.
Ability to carry out social media efforts with the university's mission and goals in mind.
