Garrison Forest School (GFS) seeks an Athletic Director to begin July 1, 2020.
Garrison Forest School, located in Baltimore County, Maryland, is an independent, non-sectarian day and boarding school educating girls in grades K-12, with a coed preschool. GFS offers a national and international boarding program for girls in grades 8-12. Founded in 1910 and set on a stunning 110-acre campus in suburban Owings Mills, Garrison Forest offers a program with a wealth of opportunities in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics. Confident, creative and compassionate, GFS girls are encouraged to be fully engaged within the school and with the local and global community around them as they develop their passions and their own authentic voices in a spirited and joyful environment.
Garrison Forest’s athletic program features exceptional facilities, including turf and grass fields, tennis courts, and two gyms, one of which is a field house with an indoor track and fitness center. With 48 teams in 16 sports, GFS provides athletic opportunities for every girl in middle and high school, and every year Garrison Forest graduates go on to play at the collegiate level in every division and in multiple sports.
The Athletic Director at GFS is a senior administrator, reporting directly to the Head of School and serving as a member of the Head’s Council, and serves as the school’s representative to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM). The Athletic Director works closely with the Admission team, the division heads, the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Director of Finance and Operations, the Office of External Programs and Campus Use, and other administrative offices to ensure a smooth flow of information and programming. Supported by an Assistant Athletic Director and a full-time trainer, the Athletic Director oversees the athletics budget, the hiring and professional development of all coaches, athletic scheduling, and (alongside the Director of External Programs and Campus Use) the use and care of athletic facilities and equipment.
The next Athletic Director at GFS will be a positive, inspirational motivator and an effective communicator, committed to developing and enacting a long-term vision for GFS athletics. She or he must be comfortable addressing all constituencies, including students, parents, colleagues, and potential students and families. The AD should bring a commitment to building connected programs in every sport, helping players develop their individual skills while also creating a positive dynamic within each team and sport. She or he will be a passionate advocate for athletic involvement and will be committed to maintaining our high expectations for sportsmanship, spirit, and integrity. The AD will not serve as a head coach, but should have significant coaching experience and an interest in supporting the growth and development of GFS coaches. Finally, the AD will see herself/himself as an integral part of the extended Garrison Forest community and will work to make sure that the athletic program is aligned in spirit and philosophy with the rest of the GFS program.
