The University of Maryland School of Medicine has an opportunity for a Business Operations Specialist to work as a member of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. The Business Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting human resource transaction and payroll processing (HRPR) and the procurement and financial reporting for the department. The selected candidate will analyze problems/issues of diverse scope and determine solutions while serving as a liaison between the department and the appropriate central campus units.

Completes Journal Entries and Reconciliations of A/R and Payroll monthly.
Responsible for the invoicing and collecting revenues associated with both internal and external vendor contracts.
Oversees the preparation & processing of payroll journals, purchase requisitions, and timekeeping records.
Calculates and Submits leave payout, supplemental pay, and retroactive payments, ensures accuracy, and that transactions are in accordance with the system.
Perform payroll processing as necessary during bi-weekly payroll processing.
Collects documentation and determines proper tax treatment of payments and tax reporting for employees and non-employees.
Prepare standard and specialized payroll reports and journal entries.
Works with different departments across campus on a variety of payroll or leave issues.
Monitor and facilitate use of program funds to support needed resources. Makes recommendations to local project lead in use of funds.
Prepare and analyze program financial statements, expenditures, and budgets for management or outside agencies.
Interacts and maintains liaison with students, faculty, staff and outside/community agencies in facilitating program objectives. Serves as a primary contact and thinks critically about all aspects of the program to resolve questions and make decisions related to how to best run the program.
Prepares or assists in preparation of grant proposal/submission for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors for faculty in the division.
Performs other administrative duties having a significant impact on the overall goals of program
Adheres to local, state, federal, and University payroll policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, finance, marketing, accounting, human resources, or other related field. Experience: Three (3) years of business related experience to position required, with at least one (1) year experience in at least two of the following: human resources, payroll, finance, facility, or research administration. Other: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
The Hiring Range for this position is in the low to mid $60,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
