The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) has an opportunity available for a Director of Annual Giving for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. The Director of Annual Giving will be responsible for creating, executing and growing a comprehensive, year-round fundraising plan for the Annual Fund for the UMSOD.

Overall responsibility for all Annual Fund income, activities, relationships, and related budget and expenses.
Develops and directs annual giving or alumni giving campaigns with UMBF central annual giving team on strategy and outreach to acquire, renew, retain, and increase all levels of annual and alumni giving donors. Solicits high-end annual giving donors, alumni, and/or grateful patients, and renews donors at increasingly higher levels.
Creates, maintains, and monitors comprehensive annual giving metrics to determine effective campaigns and strategies. Reports on trends and donor participation to be used for analysis, tracking of fundraising costs, goal setting and planning throughout the year. Summarizes reports showing progress and results from solicitation efforts.
Creates effective communications, marketing materials, and solicitation activities within specific market segments identified as having potential for the greatest growth, including creating and editing all solicitations.
Creates and manages signature leadership giving societies within the Annual Fund to include but not limited to Leadership Giving, Parent's Fund, Specialty Funds, GOLD (graduates of the last decade).
Manages phone-a-thon efforts.
Develops and implements strategic initiatives that may have internal or external impact and establish annual giving direction. Responsible for long-term planning and goals for the annual giving programs.
Work collaboratively with Communications and Alumni Relations and Office of Student Affairs teams to engage young alumni and attract young alumni donors through the development of alumni giving stories, videos, blogs, & social media posts.
Participates in alumni engagement activities such as dental study clubs, dental shows, and national conventions. Some evening work and travel required.
Directs activities for the annual giving to achieve short- and long-term goals. Oversee short- and long-term issues, projects, and plans.
Carries a portfolio of leadership annual giving donors and routinely makes donor visits and solicitations.
Works with internal constituents to educate and inform, and to develop a culture of gratitude.
Develops guidelines, processes, and procedures for annual giving administration. Responsible for ensuring industry compliance for school and resource allocation, including budget and human resources. Responsible for upholding federal laws governing privacy. Adheres to school standards of operation, policies, procedures, processes, and protocols to ensure complaint, effective, and efficient operation of complex functions.
Responsible for database updates that result from Annual Giving Programs or activities or interactions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education : Bachelors in a related field
Experience : Five (5) years of development experience with three (3) years in annual giving, phone-a-thons, alumni relations, special events, fundraising, or higher education development experience.
Supervisory : Two (2) years of management or leadership experience that had direct responsibility for the performance of development officers and staff preferred.
Other : No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ellucian ADVANCE database experience preferred.
Excellent writing, speaking, and people skills essential.
