The University of Maryland School of Social Work has an opening for a Program Director to lead efforts related to the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW). The position will be responsible for planning and overseeing the short and long-term strategic planning and strategies for programmatic success of the AASWSW. The Program Director will drive the program strategy, leads the implementation, works closely with internal and external stakeholders, and identifies gaps in services and designs additional program elements which address them. The Program Director will have direct responsibility and play a key leadership role in operating the AASWSW and has the authority to formulate, affect, interpret or implement management policies and operating practices. The position will also support the School of Social Work Dean in other strategic initiatives.
The School of Social Work is one of seven professional schools at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), an urban health, law, and human services campus. The School ranks among the top twenty schools of social work in the nation and has an enrollment of approximately 950 MSW students in two locations (Baltimore and Shady Grove, MD) and about 60 PhD students are also enrolled. We also host two national training and technical assistance centers, a Child Welfare Academy, a Center on Positive Schools, and over $35,000,000 in extramural projects, in all. At this time UM SSW has close to 300 employees.

Creates a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve program goals. Oversees the recruitment, performance, and training of team members and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team.
Develops strategy, program work plans, long term goals, and other strategic initiatives to build and operationalize the program and advance its mission. Ensures compliance with all government and University policies and regulations, as well as maintaining alignment with program mission.
Develops, reviews, and approves policies, procedures, and processes. Examines and evaluates program effectiveness, and makes changes as necessary. Analyzes and synthesizes data and information to ensure the successful delivery of the program. Prepares the regular publication of summary reports and serves as an information resource to affiliates, the University, and external agencies.
Oversees the development and content of speeches, presentations, articles, literature reviews, scholarly journal articles and other forms of content dissemination as relates to AASWSW and other school wide initiatives. Contributes substantially in the development and implementation of communication and dissemination strategies, including providing oversight to social marketing strategy, making media appearances, and maintaining content on website.
Develops, manages, and supports the programs partnerships and relationships within and outside of the University. Organize and participate in various committees and teams to consult with program heads and administrative officials on policy and program needs as well as various administrative issues related to the implementation of clinical, research, and educational programs
Counsels the Dean on School of Social Work administrative and programmatic matters by drafting documents and other written materials on behalf of the Dean, developing speeches, research and writing testimony to academic bodies, event planning, school strategic planning, and serving on internal/external committees and organizations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related field
Experience: Six (6) years working in an appropriate field with at least two (2) years of experience in overall program direction, coordination and implementation.
Supervisory: Experience Preferred
The Hiring Range for this position is in the low $80,000s to the low $90,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
