The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has a unique opportunity available for a Technology Licensing Analyst. Through effective communication and collaboration, the Technology Licensing Analyst will build, strengthen, and maintain relationships between university investigators and OTT staff. The analyst will also help evaluate the commercial potential of university discoveries through market research and interaction with university inventors, other opinion leaders, and OTT staff. This position reports directly to the Director of Technology Licensing, collaborates with the technology transfer team and coordinates work with the internal marketing director, with the goal of increasing the visibility of OTT's services and the team's ability to capture, protect and commercialize UMB's intellectual and tangible research property.

Works with OTT personnel, ORD Director of Marketing, and external consultants to develop clear internal marketing goals and outreach strategy for the office; leads execution of resulting internal outreach plan.
Works directly with OTT's Licensing Officers to build, grow, and maintain relationships with UMB investigators and OTT.
Develops and authors non-confidential summaries for marketing of university technologies and creates marketing materials (brochures, posters, websites, marketing sheets, etc.) by:
Reviewing, understanding, and summarizing inventions disclosed to OTT.
Evaluating the market potential of UMB inventions by researching competitive aspects of the target market (e.g., size, dynamics, barriers to entry, unmet needs, etc.).
Articulating UMB invention utility and competitive position.
Maintains contact with UMB's various schools and departments and coordinate OTT's event participation to enhance office visibility.
Compiles and keeps updated the portfolio of UMB technologies, facilities, and expertise.
Assists in maintaining and updating OTT's website.
Generally assists with OTT's management of technologies and new invention disclosures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in life sciences. A degree or completed coursework in business preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of university-based technology transfer or industry (pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotechnology) based marketing or business development experience preferred.
Preferred Experience: Experience working within the research environment at a major university, institute, or private industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills needed to help the office build and maintain long-term relationships with UMB's multiple professional schools and departments and various stakeholders.
Sufficient technical background to understand medical terminology and complex life science-based technologies and summarize information into clear marketing materials.
Able to perform the position in compliance with all requirements, regulations, and laws. Maintain high standards with the work completed.
Assume personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions. Maintain productivity and uses knowledge strategies to increase knowledge base. Able to make independent decisions that are a matter of significance for the unit.
