The Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is seeking a Program Specialist to support the Department Chair and Academic Clinical Program Directors across all departmental divisions in the oversight and management toward programmatic goals. This position will provide support across all current (eight) academic clinical programs (with 9th program in development), including both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral programs.
The Program Specialist should demonstrate strong collaborative and professional standards, and develops goals and tactics to align with departmental strategic objectives. This individual is expected to function independently and exercise discretion, identify collaborative opportunities between programs, and optimize efficiencies across educational programs in the school. Functions as a liaison between the Department Chair, Directors, Students and Residents to ensure that we are reaching our academic targets and that Students and Residents are receiving a well-rounded clinical education.

Model a positive teamwork approach in coordinating activities consistent with the department's collaborative model of operations, both within the department and with the other academic clinical programs in the School of Dentistry.
Coordinate and assist in the management and monitoring of clinical components of academic training programs for residents and students.
Assist Directors to track competencies, credentialing, and student/resident progress consistent with CODA accreditation standards.
Oversee clinical space and equipment planning and utilization.
Assist faculty in coordinating and facilitating clinical seminar and training exercises based on both internal and external (vendor) programs.
Assist in conceptualization, development, and drafting of written products such as training materials, promotional materials, recommendations and other information resources for the improvement of the organizational elements or its programs.
Establish effective communication channels and provides routine and non-routine technical advice, problem-solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretation, and administrative support to program leadership teams. Refer issues to appropriate department person when unable to respond.
Assist in evaluating program effectiveness to develop improved methods; devise evaluation methodology and implements; analyze results and recommend and/or take appropriate action.
Work with Chair and Program Directors to formulate, affect, interpret, or implement policies or procedures to ensure effective operation of the programs.
May assist Directors with recruitment, admissions, interviews, and acceptances in support of the programs. May include marketing methods such as brochures that explain the programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to present ideas and information clearly and concisely.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education : Bachelors in related field.
Experience : Two (2) years administrative/coordinator program experience.
Other : Consideration may be given for a unique combination of education and experience.
At least 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred. Experience providing program oversight including program planning and coordination is also preferred.
