The Carey Business School seeks a dynamic, highly collaborative and strategic leader focused on the performance and continuous improvement of our MBA and MS programs.
Provide strategic leadership and operational management of Carey Business School’s full-time and part-time (onsite and online) MBA programs and the MS Programs (Business Analytics and Risk Management, Finance, Health Care Management, Information Systems, Marketing, and Real Estate and Infrastructure), leveraging relationships both within Johns Hopkins University and in the wider graduate business school community.
The leader will drive program development and program administration, including the advising function, working closely with faculty and program staff on curriculum and course development, integration of co-curricular learning, and coordination with partner schools within the university.
The Associate Dean will directly supervise a small professional staff, report to the Vice Dean for Education, and work collaboratively across the school to enhance the quality and performance of the MBA and MS programs.
The Associate Dean will liaise with relevant departments within the school to optimize the experience of students in the MBA and MS programs; the departments include admissions, marketing, experiential learning, career development, and relevant faculty committees.
A. Strategic Leadership and Planning (45%)
Formulates and implements strategies for advancing the reputation of and demand for Carey’s MBA and MS programs
Stays abreast of the competitive landscape through research and interaction with other leaders in graduate business education
B. Oversight of Program Administration (40%)
Administers overall program operations, develops program goals and objectives, allocates resources for greater effectiveness and efficiency, evaluating the program results and identifying the areas for improvement
Develops and manages the program budgets, including setting budgetary priorities, forecasting and meeting budget targets
Provides leadership in the development of goals and accountability. Focuses the programs and advising teams on achieving established goals
In collaboration with the Vice Dean, the curriculum committee, and other stakeholders recommends and assists with the development of course offerings
C. Performance Management (15%)
Manages a team responsible for meeting the administrative needs of the full-time and part-time MBA and MS programs and student advising
Hires, trains and leads professional staff
Develops measurable goals for the department and evaluates staff members against those goals
D. Other Responsibilities (10%)
Assists Vice Dean for Education with relevant projects as they arise
Other duties as assigned
Master's degree in business or related field required; terminal degree strongly preferred.
10 years or more of progressive experience in higher education, preferably in a business school.
Additional years of experience may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Working knowledge of the business school MBA and MS landscape and academic issues in higher education.
Working knowledge of best practices in student advising
Ability to assess data regarding competitive landscape.
Superior project management and organizational skills; ability to manage micro and macro objectives and ability to execute multiple objectives concurrently.
Knowledge of academic programs, academic program development and corresponding administrative functions.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
Ability to successfully create and manage program budgets.
Ability to effectively manage projects and motivate teams.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including excellent presentation skills.
Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
Experience working with organizations and individuals in international setting; cross-cultural competence and experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
