Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a Controller for its Business Office. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Controller will be responsible for the following:
Assist the Director of Finance and Operations in preparing and maintaining the annual budget.
Compile, analyze, and reconcile financial information monthly and overseeing the quarterly close process.
Work with outside auditors annually and providing them with reports as requested. Provide follow-up documentation as needed throughout the year.
Prepare unaudited financial statements for the board and upper management for review on a quarterly basis.
Prepare compliance filings with State of Maryland and IRS. (Sales and Use Tax filings, Charitable Gift Filing, 990 tax return, and other miscellaneous tax filings).
Oversee accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, and collections for the School.
Assist with enrollment management including publishing enrollment contracts, assisting with financial aid, and oversight of tuition payment plan process.
Attend finance committee meetings on a quarterly basis.
Other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications of the ideal candidate include the following:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance. CPA is preferred, but not required.
Four to six years of related experience and/or training. Must use generally accepted accounting principles and practices and have the ability to analyze and interpret financial documents and reports.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience with Great Plains and/or other common accounting and software packages is strongly preferred.
Must have a strong work ethic, be dependable, and have strong communication skills.
