The Department of Oncology is seeking a full time Laboratory Manager to be responsible for scientific and administrative activities and oversight of a laboratory. Extensive knowledge of overall objectives and interests of lab research. Will report to the Assistant Professor laboratory PI, Cancer Immunology / Director, Bloomberg-Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Will assist the PI in maintaining day to day laboratory operations
Assists in assay preparation and data analysis
Supports research and development for new clinical diagnostic tests, therefore must clearly understand the importance of technique, safety, and work quality as they relate to the impact upon patient care.
Reviews techniques and research protocols to ensure reproducibility and issues recommendations.
Documents results under quality assurance guidelines.
Works with laboratory staff to evaluate their technical knowledge and skills, and assists in the training of other laboratory personnel.
Acts as a lead technical authority overseeing laboratory staff and is responsible for the overall daily operation of the laboratory including workload and personnel scheduling, quality control, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
Assists with the development and administration of laboratory budgets. Performs other related administrative and professional duties.
Orders reagents and supplies, and ensures aliquots and stocks of common reagents are maintained
Acts as the direct point of contact for industrial supplier sales personnel and technical support. Prepares periodic reports on workflow for laboratory faculty Director and BKI leadership.
Works closely with local, national and international collaborators to provide technical and logistic support for clinical sample (blood, ascites and solid tumors) processing, analysis, data generation and maintenance of de-identified clinical information databases.
Supervision of Others: Yes, 3-5
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field and 5 years related experience required. Proven technical knowledge and laboratory experience. Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities / Competencies:
Experience with quality control, assay troubleshooting, and SOP development.
Experience with human tissue handling, T cell culture, high-yield DNA and RNA isolation, and analysis of T cell receptor sequencing data.
Ability to adapt to changing SOPs
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Ability to provide scientific guidance to students, post-docs, and technicians
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
