The Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI) is a national initiative based at the Department of Population, Family and Reproduction Health of the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. The mission of CAHMI is to advance improvements in the health and wellbeing of children and families through research, measurement, and partnership with families, health care professionals, and policy leaders.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge about maternal and child health (MCH) related programs in the US, experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods for assessing health and engaging the MCH population/workforce, and extensive statistical analysis experience. Specific hands-on experience in the development and analysis of survey datasets such as the National Survey of Children's Health is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable effectively engaging stakeholders to formulate shared goals and consensus around technical issues of measurement and methods. Interest in and ability to contribute to the development of new projects and passion for improving the health and wellbeing of all children and families is essential.
As part of a collaborative team, the Research Data Analyst will be a key partner in CAHMI efforts related to the National MCH Data Resource Center, paper writing, and related efforts to develop, test, and advance family-centered engagement tools for improving MCH outcomes in practice.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Specifically, the Research Data Analyst will engage in the following:
Application of MCH Content and Policy Knowledge. Apply a working knowledge of MCH content, programs, policies, and data sources to support on-going research projects. Engage stakeholders in consensus processes related to the design of new child health measures, meta-data materials, and new patient engagement tools specifically related to children with special health care needs (CSHCN) and early childhood development. Implement new methods to disseminate data and information to stakeholders, and build partnerships with children's health advocates. Assist stakeholders in their use of data to inform policy.
Statistical Analysis and Technical Assistance: Co-lead statistical analyses on several key projects. Analysis includes: regression modeling, multilevel modeling, and other statistical tests as needed, using SPSS, STATA, and SAS. Produce detailed and organized reports displaying data analysis findings. Design and assist in the development of tutorials, educational workshops, and webinars for training on survey and tool usage. Assist in the generation of data briefs, chartbooks, reports, and academic papers and presentations of key findings from assigned research projects. Present materials at workshops and conferences, as requested.
Dissemination and Reporting of Key Findings from Specific Projects: Collaborate to plan, conceptualize and develop data issue briefs, papers, chartbooks, and methods reports to inform and support MCH programs, health systems, providers, and families. Synthesize complex information into easy-to-understand materials. This work involves verifying data, double-checking findings, writing/editing for a variety of audiences (e.g. policymakers, local program planners without statistical background) and literature reviews. Coordinate and collaborate to DRC and CAHMI outreach and assist in development of marketing materials and methods, including newsletters, social media, and at in-person conferences. Provide technical assistance to a wide range of MCH professionals and advocates on interpreting and using data.
Supervision: May supervise research assistants and student interns as needed.
Other tasks include:
Coordinate across a range of colleagues, staff, contractors and partners in the ongoing development and maintenance of web-based data and patient engagement tools such as the CAHMI's National Maternal and Child Health Data Resource Center (www.childhealthdata.org) and Well Visit Planner (www.wellvisitplanner.org).
Partner in the creation of new collaborations and funding developments to further advance the work of the CAHMI. Assist in grant proposal writing and prepare, manage, track submissions, and ensure all necessary documentation, guidelines, and protocols are followed.
This position will include routine extended work hours, such as travel to conferences and meetings, and meeting project and funder deadlines.
Bachelor's degree in related discipline and three years related work experience.
Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Master's degree preferred (in public health, biostatistics, public administration, or related field).

Knowledge of programs, policies, and data sources related to MCH, and specifically related to children with special health care needs (CSHCN) or early childhood development.
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods for assessing health and engaging the MCH population/workforce.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with a wide variety of audiences, including written communication, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at national conferences.
Knowledge of population-based survey research design and methods, and ability to synthesize and interpret statistical findings.
Two years related experience working with a statistical software package (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA), including demonstrated competency in manipulating variables, an understanding of large scale surveys and survey design, and demonstrated accuracy in interpreting and reporting prevalence estimates and other statistical data.
Understanding of grant writing and the grant submission process.
Preferred experience with IT-based, patient-engagement platforms.
Preferred experience working with pediatric practices, health plans, or federal/state/local MCH programs.
