Position: The College of Business and Economics (CBE) invites applications for Chairperson of the Department of Accounting with the faculty rank of Associate or Full Professor, beginning July 2019 (or as negotiable).
Qualifications: Applicants must possess a PhD/DBA or equivalent from an AACSB accredited university in accounting or a closely related area. CPA-licensure and/or CMA certification is desirable. Candidates with a J.D. degree and CPA-license are also welcome. A record of excellence in teaching and scholarly achievement consistent with an appointment to Associate or Full Professor of Accounting with tenure at Towson University, significant administrative responsibilities and/or committee service, and evidence of strong leadership skills are required.
Responsibilities:The chairperson is both a faculty member and departmental leader. In addition to the expectations of a faculty member in terms of teaching, scholarship and service, the role of the chairperson will be to lead faculty and staff to create an effective learning organization by:
Ensuring that the needs of the students in the programs supported by the department are met;
Supporting the professional growth of faculty;
Fostering appropriate change and planning;
Promoting scholarship for advancement of the discipline;
Advocating for the academic mission, values, and needs of the department, college, and university;
Maintaining and overseeing the standards for completion of program requirements toward graduation;
Overseeing efforts to maintain AACSB accreditation in Accounting;
Building and maintaining relationships with accounting firms, the business community and the CBE Accounting Advisory Board.
Terms of Appointment:The successful candidate will have a record of academic accomplishment consistent with the rank of Full or Associate Professor with tenure. The appointment as department chairperson is in addition to the appointment as a tenured faculty member. The initial term of appointment for a chairperson is four years, which may be renewed for a second four-year term pending a satisfactory performance review. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications and experience.
College of Business and Economics:The CBE is accredited by AACSB for both its business and accounting programs. It offers undergraduate business programs in an array of business fields, along with M.S. degrees in Marketing Intelligence, and Supply Chain Management, and an M.S. in Accounting and Business Advisory Services that is offered jointly with the University of Baltimore. The college also plays a prominent role in advising local and regional firms, government agencies and non-profit organizations.
Department of Accounting:The Department of Accounting is a unit within in the College of Business of Economics and Towson University. With 18 full-time faculty members and over 700 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate accounting programs, it is the largest AACSB accredited undergraduate accounting program in the state of Maryland.
