The Vice President, BSO at Strathmore is a highly visible role as the senior Baltimore Symphony Orchestra representative in the greater DC Metro market. Responsibilities include the comprehensive oversight and success of all BSO activities at Strathmore and in the region and for its development program. The incumbent is a Member of BSO Senior Management Team, with direct interaction on regular basis with BSO Chairman of the Board, BSO President & CEO, all members of the Senior Staff and BSO Board members particularly those from the DC Metro area. The Vice President will have the experience, ability, and motivation to significantly expand the annual giving program, with emphasis on new major donors from individual, corporate, foundation and government sources, coupled with a demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful cultivation strategies for major donor prospects. They will also direct all aspects of highest-level patron’s program, notably stewardship, events, cultivation, and volunteer management and directly supervise the BSO at Strathmore Donor Relations Manager and Community Liaison Officer. The Vice President is the primary representative of the Baltimore Symphony in Montgomery County with the responsibility for building the BSO’s relationships with the local government, Strathmore and its partners, and a full range of community organizations.
Lead all BSO activities in the DC Metro area with a focus on Montgomery Represent the BSO in discussions with government, civic organizations, and Strathmore, including other partners. Actively create and promote opportunities to build awareness of the BSO and its programs.

As a key staff member of the BSO Governance Committee, direct efforts to recruit and cultivate new Board members from the metro DC area, with a focus on Montgomery County, who can advance the BSO agenda, with a goal of increasing the number and effectiveness of BSO directors from the
Serve as liaison between BSO and the Board of Directors and any appropriate Committees relative to all Strathmore-related fundraising and other
Develop and refine a strategy to significantly increase and broaden BSO impact in the
Work with the Vice President, Development and the development staff to organize and manage the Development function for the BSO at Establish policies, systems, and procedures; prepare and administer budgets; appoint, lead, evaluate and manage staff.
Prepare an Annual Fund plan, with the President & CEO and the Vice President, Development, establishing appropriate goals for the annual and all other Strathmore-specific fund-raising campaigns deemed necessary (special projects, endowment, planned giving, etc.) each year.
Develop a plan for achieving those goals and establish a master calendar that outlines all fundraising events and campaigns; coordinate all activities with the BSO master calendar.
Identify, recruit, and develop an expanded circle of volunteer leadership to achieve campaign success.
Work with the Vice President and General Manager and staff to ensure the highest quality customer experience for audiences of the BSO at Strathmore.
Assist and advise the President & CEO for the portion of his time directed at fund raising and other activities for the BSO at Strathmore.
Develop a strategy with the VP, Marketing & Communications to raise the profile of the BSO in the metro DC market through meaningful and specific donor, speaking and other high-level events and using all available BSO assets.
Establish a high level of cooperation among the management team at Strathmore and all BSO departments in Baltimore to best leverage the full range of resources available to fully support the BSO at Strathmore. Work with BSO colleagues to build a strong internal culture of support for BSO activities at Strathmore with staff and members of the orchestra.
Represent the BSO at Strathmore at appropriate civic and cultural events, and attend conferences as approved by the President and CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES
Solid relationships in Montgomery County that can help the BSO attract new patrons and donors
A minimum 5-7 years of successful, hands-on experience in the management of development programs, encompassing direct solicitation of major gifts, demonstrated ability to identify, recruit, engage, motivate, and support volunteer solicitors to successfully cultivate and close major individual and corporate gift solicitations.
Proven record of developing partnerships and working independently.
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field. An MBA or other advanced degree is preferable.
Public speaking experience and ability to represent BSO interests in multiple arenas including political, social and at evening and weekend performances.
A background and/or interest in symphonic music is desirable.
